Don’t buy the vinyl chair?
The media could not be loaded. The chair is very supportive. However, if you order the vinyl covering it may harden over time. I have seen this happen with my pillow. The natural oil and moisture in human skin causes the vinyl to become rigid and inflexible. According to The Back Store the material in these chairs is not covered by the warranty. I ended up buying a leather pillow to replace my vinyl pillow at a cost of $234. I think that is quite steep but the vinyl pillow was no longer useable. This happened in less than 2 years.

Great chair, after harrowing delivery
This chair is great and super comfortable. It is exactly what I wanted, though I find the price point very high for a manual recliner with no massage options and just a moderately effective hydraulic lumbar support. What bothered me greatly was the delivery experience. It is supposed to be signature required. Instead, the delivery company dumped my $2700 chair (nearly $3k with delivery costs) in my driveway on a rainy day, ripe for the porch pirate pickings. Furthermore, they didn't even contact me or Amazon to update the status. I was home the whole time, but didn't know it had been delivered for 3 hours because the Amazon status didn't change. It wasn't until I happened actually enter the tracking number on the carrier's site again because I was surprised it hadn't arrived yet that I realized it had been delivered.Heck, in the Q&A section, the company even claims its white glove indoor delivery, but I'll let that slide since it's not actually in the posting. But it was definitely signature required and I definitely was left high and dry on that front, unable to even inspect the packaging before accepting (as the manufacturer urges).

The Best Chair for Sciatica or Back Pain, could use better quality control
I had one of the early models in 2001 when I first herniated my L5-S1 disk, and it lasted 15 years. The design has improved a lot since then. The clutch mechanism that holds the chair in position is much better now. Note this is a review of the basic PC-420 model, not the one with electric features*. This chair does a great job of relieving back pain, and you can also roll to either side with your knees to do stretches, shift position, whatever. Now that I have one again, I have a pain-free zone where I hang out and work on the laptop, read, etc. It's like home base. Yes, these are expensive. Yes, if you have chronic pain back pain or sciatica, they are worth every penny.*Note: it takes a bit of arm and core body strength to bring the chair upright from the fully reclined position. If you have any doubt about strength, just get the electric model.Update: After 2 months, it has become clear to me that the light walnut finish chips easily, so be careful not to bang into the chair with the vacuum, etc. Also, the chair shipped with some of the (rather complex) hardware not tightened down completely, so it creaks a bit after I set it into position. So far I have been too lazy to remove all the cushions to get at the bolts that need tightening. This really should have been done right at the factory.

Review after 5 years
We purchased two of these 5 years ago to get rid of puffy recliners, mainly to fit in better with our mid-century living room that has an Eames chair and 2 Kardiel Woodrow couches. We have not regretted it. We sit in them daily, and I'm over 250 lbs. The cushioning is not worn out at all.It takes guests some time to figure out how to shift body weight to sit back up and recline. For us, it's second nature and way easier than a traditional recliner. The only criticism I have is of the leather. It's thin and does not tear but shows marks from our cat's claws when they climb on them or sit on them. The Eames chair is the same, though. In contrast, the Kardiel sofa has thick aniline leather that still looks new. I wish Human touch would offer an upgrade to a thicker, more rugged leather. So the Perfect Chair is not perfect, but still 4.5 + stars after 5 years, and I'll round up to 5 stars.

Takes ALL the pressure off your spinal column, but don't buy until you've tried.
Yeah, it's a lot of money. So my first piece of advice would be don't buy it until you've tried one. My sister has had this same chair for 20 years and I hog it every time I visit, so I knew what I would be getting. Valencia Seating (the seller I bought from) provided curbside delivery - if you need "white glove" be sure you've paid for it. It took my husband 30 minutes to assemble, screwdriver was provided, and assembly was very straightforward - mostly placing the pads. If you are going to assemble you need to be able to get on the floor, etc.TRY BEFORE YOU BUY - here's why. If you have long legs, your feet will hang off the end. I am 5'8" and my feet hang off right at the Achilles tendon, which I KNEW, because I'd tried it. I have to put a thick fleece blanket at the edge (easier than it sounds) to pad that area to get the PERFECT PERFECT fit. I have never sat in such a wonderful chair! The leather is gorgeous (I got the top grain leather in red, which is a matte, pebbly look). This is not a soft cushy chair, the padding is quite thin. And it isn't pretty from behind - the black canvas shows as does some of the metal. But it doesn't need to be soft if your back hurts. I am recovering from a ruptured disk and NOTHING is comfortable except this chair. Here's another thing you need to know - it isn't automated. You have to use your body weight to push it back, and again to bring it forward. It takes some work, in other words - not much, but some. If you need your feet elevated above your heart, this is great. Like a dentist's chair without the evil dentist sticking pointy tools into your mouth. My sister had had several surgeries on her feet and this is what she recovers in. So - it is a GREAT chair and was worth the high cost to me, but I knew exactly what I was getting, and you should too. If you buy directly from the manufacturer you will pay a lot more but you'll have an in-home trial period. Because I have used this exact chair many times, I felt very safe buying it via Amazon Marketplace.
