Vanessa Amorosi - The Power - Island Records - 159 409-2, Universal Music - 159 409-2

I've never bought an album just because I was impressed by a singer -- this is an exception. The price is discouraging at first, but there are 10 original tracks and 3 remixes that are consistently of high quality. Not only does Amorosi have a great voice (no studio magic), she takes credits on most of the songs as having written them. There is a perfect mix of jumpy and soft songs on this album, some even have quite an edge. For me the tracks that jump out are "Absolutely Everybody," "The Power," and the remix of "Pray For Love." If you like this, I highly recommend Amorosi's single for "Have a Look" because it has a great remix as well as "Heroes Live Forever" (from the sydney games). If you search carefully you can find 30 second previews of some of the songs on this album either from other amazon listings or searches elsewhere. All I can say is that there are no filler songs on this album and Amorosi truly holds her own vocally. Oh, and just fyi, there is a bit of bad language, such as the "b" word but it is entirely in the context of the song and not offensive at all. Some of the songs on this album are SO inspiring, it is a purchase you won't regret if you find yourself humming to pop songs but wish there was more legitimate talent out there -- Amorosi is that talent!

Christina Aguilera, eat your heart out - 'cause this is what your album should have been like!!What can I say except that this album is GOOD! My favourite tracks are the Dance flavoured "Absolutely Everybody" and the stunning "Shine"!Plusses: Amorosi's got avery strong voice that simply shines through, though she is a vocal chameleon of sorts! :)Minusses: Unfortunately the stunning "Heroes Live Forever" isn't here! :(Nevertheless, that track's available on the 2000 Olympic Album, along with the track from that other Aussie stunner of a vocalist, Tina Arena, whose Olympic song "The Flame" must be heard to be believed!

Vanessa is fabulous! I saw her for the first time in theOpening Ceremony of the Olympics. I did manage to track down"Heroes Live Forever", but you've got to buy it from the"...olympics..." website (look for the "Music from theOpening Ceremony") and have it shipped from Australia. I lovedher performance of Absolutely Everybody in the Closing Ceremony.

A poppy cover of the Barbara Dickson "You can get here by sailboat etc etc" song, its great.Vanessa Amorosi has a brilliant voice, along with super songs. But now I've heard she's no longer releasing in Britain!

You won't be able to believe that this girl is only about 18 years old! This album shows that she likes to experiment with different styles - her first single "Have A Look" is reminiscent of Alanis Morrissette, while "Absolutely Everybody" is an upbeat dance tune. I see this girl improving as she gets older, and becoming a worldwide star - well, at least she deserves it because she has an amazing voice and some great songs. I especially love "You Were Led On" - it is full of passion, as well as mind-blowing vocals. A smooth groove. Just gotta see her live now Go Vanessa!

Vanessa Amorosi is and will be one of the worlds greatest singers/performers of this millenium. I have followed her career since it first began with the single "Have a Look". I was amazed. Her passion and powerful indivdiual style <not to mention one of the best voices I have heard in a long time> amazed me.Then, the song that rocked most New Years Eve parties "Absolutely Everybody" was released and it totally blew me away. Her individuality and style make this album a must have. Her powerful vocals and passion for her songs, of which she wrote most, break through powerfully, especially on my FAVOURITE track of the whole album, Shine. There is a mix of styles from R&B, Rock, Pop, Ballads...a bit of everything. Another terrific song is How Y' Livin', and U R Mine, which is the first track of the CD and gives you an indication of her great talent. One of the best artists to come out of Australia, who is also fantastic live, Vanessa rocks and her album THE POWER is an album you gotta own. If I could, I'd give it a 10+.

Wow. This girl has some voice! The songs are catchy, lyrics are inspiring, and her voice is near-perfect. In a few years, she could just be the next Christina Aguilera in the U.S. ;) Bottom Line: Great voice, good songs, second CD should be better.

It is the first time I listen to veanessa's song, and I found that it is really great! Especially the song "Shine", the music is energetic and her voice is sweet and cozy, it gives you power!No wonder it is one of the greatest hit in australia. If you have never listen to it before, try it now, you will be impressed and love this song.

This CD is an interesting mix of styles all performed by a singer with a wonderful soulful voice.Absolutely Everybody is electro but is very lively and enjoyable and the first highlight on the disc. Shine is a softer song which shows that Vanessa is not merely a "power" singer and is the second highlight. This is followed by Have A Look: for this listener, the best track on the disc. This is more of a Rock song which is superbly complemented by Vanessa's soulful vocals.Every Time I Close My Eyes is another soft song and another highlight. How Y'Livin' is a good song, again with a soulful vocal, but is spoilt by a rap (not performed by Vanessa) in the middle. Moving on to the title track, The Power is another lively electro song and yet another highlight. This is followed by I Wanna Be Your Everything; a song that starts softly then builds up. Another highlight.The final highlight is the Latino Mix of Absolutely Everybody.Despite having identified seven out of thirteen songs as highlights, I can only give this collection four stars. Some of the songs are just a little too electro for this Rock fan. But four stars definitely counts as a recommendation.
