The Citadel

A little to timely though.

When was the last time you saw a movie about a young doctor just out of medical school with dreams of doing good, fall prey to the healthcare establishment that turns him into a cold-hearted businessman trying to squeeze every dime out of the system. This story, which was created in the late 30's, is still relevant today. In this movie he finds his humanity, does that happen today? I hope so.

My doctor makes the book, The Citadel, required reading of all of his interns and for good reason. The movie version, as all films do, took a few liberties with the story, leaves out an important event, but overall portrays a fine interpretation of A. J. Cronin's story. Well worth the viewing.

thought there would be delay receiving this movie but not at all. arrived promptly and completely sealed. after we both finish the book we will watch the movie - looking forward to it.

When will I learn to always check for subtitles. This is undoubtedly a fine film but with my hearing problems, and no subtitles, I'm missing most of the dialogue. I like to watch a movie through once with the subtitles running, then if I like it I can watch it again without the subtitles because now I know what they're saying. No such luck here!My fault for not checking. Just a warning for anyone else out there who's thinking of buying this DVD if you have hearing problems.

Not good at explaining but it was just a wonderful movie to add to my collection and watch over and over.

They don't make movies like this anymore , great actors and a good story which mades a good movie. Loved watching it , recommended to all classic movie buffs

The story and acting was great. The smell of that DVD was awful. I was sent another and this 2nd DVD was almost oder free. The 1st DVD is still sitting in baking soda. :)

This is film based on A J Cronins famous Book The Citadel that led to the establishment of the NHS and pre full registration internship for new medical graduates . Film differed from the book . In the book Christine Butler dies but in the film Danny dies . The producer thought Christines death will be too much for the public . One of the Best Films on medical ethics ., even better than the film Of Human Bondage- Chas Herbert Kodikara

A well written book and an excellent film, though dated. Of an era long gone, but written as it was to the people living then.
