I am a beginner at acrylic and oil painting and I wanted to explore the history and understand the greats. And look at work that maybe I’ve never seen before. What I like about this book is that it gives a brief description that I can digest easily— a bit about the history of the painting and a bit about the composition, brush work, materials used, colors etc. I really like the “see also” section where they mention a few other painters who would share one commonality. In the Matisse one they suggest to look up Van Gogh because of the usage of color and they do this throughout the book with different styles and brush work and etc. I highly recommend because it’s just an interesting book with well printed paintings— I think it’s really well done for such a affordable price.

Comes with no torn or missing pages although the other book I bought has a torn page. Both arrived in one package. The paper used is premium and the quality of the photos are great. Very informative.
