Q: I plan to buy 2 gray roller blinds to install in the living room, I want to know how they should be installed and how effective they are?

Don’t know your mechanical skills level for install. Husband did ours with no problems and we are old people! Put them in three bedrooms and they work great! Much better than the slated blinds we had! The new roller shades are truly as shown! Room darkening and easily go up and down!

Q: How do I order size？

It depends on if you are installing on the inside or the outside of the width of the window. In order to have complete blackout you need to install it on the outside and make it wider than the window frame itself. If it's on the inside of the window frame there may be some light coming through unless your window frame has wood or metal around the edges.

Q: Are these waterproof?

My opinion….. They appear that they may hold up to a little dampness but I wouldn’t put them outside. There is metal components and would probably rust.

Q: Are they ridgid enough and have enough tension when in "roll-up" mode to potentially be installed horizontally and hook into something on other side?

I honestly don't know. I took some videos of the shade and they do roll up easily. The return is really easy as well if you decide to try. I measured some windows wrong and had to return 2 sets. I do like them, they do a great job of blocking the sun.
