Q: How can I lock the brakes? They only lock as long as my child isn't seated...

I had the same problem. At first, brakes didn’t lock at all so exchanged for another one. Brakes on the second one did not lock unless there was weight pushing down. And only one side worked. It was getting too dangerous so returned it.

Q: Has anyone taken this on a flight? Did this count as the stroller that could be gate checked for free?

It folds up like a stroller, it should be no problem.
