12 DejaVu Espresso drinks, pods compatible with VERISMO system

If you are looking for a cheaper shot of espresso than what you can get with Starbucks, then you've come to the right place. It does not have the aroma nor the rich flavor of the Starbucks brand but it still is worth the price of admission. You will find that the pods are different from the Verismo V pods but they are usable. Occasionally I had to nudge them to drop a little bit lower when it wouldn't close, but it doesn't take long to get used to that. Expect about 25ml of espresso and 5ml of foam (which is pretty normal.) I will be talking about the espresso being used straight, in a latte (I rarely make cappucinos...too much froth), and in Americano's unsweetened.Before I talk about the coffee flavors themselves, I want to talk about the sellers. I had an issue with my Etiopia pods only producing about 1/5th the amount of espresso and they sent me a replacement bag within days. Now I'm a happy caffeinated customer! Great service!I'll start off with the Arabica blends (Etiopia and Columbia) since I'm new to espresso with Robusta. Columbia seems to be the weakest of the group in flavor. It simply tastes like what you would expect from Columbian coffees. It makes for a decent, but weak latte, and a pretty pitiful cup of Americano.Etiopia, however, is the winner of the group. It's smooth and has a nice flavor to it. I think it tastes a bit better than the Starbucks Ethiopian coffee but not any of their other flavors (Kenyan is by far my favorite...) I can sip this as straight espresso. In a latte, it still holds onto its flavor nicely but as Americano it just loses its punch.Next up is the first Robusta blend I tried, Deja Vu. I'll be honest...I do not like this as a straight shot. It tastes like bug spray. I did a bit of research and found that Robusta beans work as natural insect repellants. I can see why... Maybe if I drink enough of this the mosquitos will leave me along in South East Texas. Now, this flavor does shine in a latte and seems to do ok as an Americano. A little sugar wouldn't hurt. In fact, I made an iced mocha with it yesterday and it was pretty amazing. Chocolate does well with this.Finally, I'm going to end with the Harambee. I haven't bothered with drinking this straight. It's very pungent but very velvety in texture. I'm pretty sure if you drink it straight you may see into the future. I currently use this when I want something sweet and need something powerful to balance it with. My favorite use has been for affogato (pouring a shot of espresso over ice cream.) I am currently using this only to make sweeter drinks I make rarely.So, should you buy this? Yes. It's a nice variety pack and has some flavors you can't get off of the Starbucks line. I am looking forward to having the packs potentially broken up in the future. I would regularly buy the Deja Vu and Etiopia pods but could live without the other two.

The price is great and all. The espresso is decent but several of them in my package didn’t work. When i put the first one in, it exploded on the top and then didn’t run through. I’ve had several other ones do something similar. It’s frustrating that 1/4 of the product is completely unusable and they are all hit or miss. Their return policy is garbage and they don’t even have the availability to send an email to them if you have an issue. Won’t be buying these again and will stick to the Starbucks brand. At least I know all of them will work.

These definitely fit my Verismo but they simply don't compare to the taste of the Starbucks pods. I expected more from an Italian company. Maybe they are only supposed to be used as a single shot of espresso, but they are super weak and mostly tasteless if you use one pod and the coffee brew on the machine. Now what I do is use two pods per cup of coffee, running the espresso brew twice on each pod, shutting the water off when the liquid turns close to clear.

The first one got stuck in my machine, but I think that was just a fluke. I have probably used about 10 since then without any issues.

They don’t fit quite right in the machine. It takes a lot of wiggling and will power to make it work. All the effort you put into making it fit goes to waste because the taste is just awful. You could say they got one thing right... the name. Deja Vu indeed. Just like every off brand coffee pod, it’s horrible.

These pods work great for the verismo. I originally tried this in a mixed flavor pack and this one was my favorite. I like my coffee a little stronger so I usually buy the espresso pods from Starbucks and brew it like a coffee but it gets expensive. These are a great alternative! They are slightly more acidic than Starbucks but not enough to upset my stomach like other brands. Plus, I get twice as many for the same price as the Starbucks ones so, whoo hoo! The only thing that would makes these better is if I could add them to my prime monthly subscription. If your looking for a better priced alternative for verismo pods this brand is great!

So the first two pods did not produce good espresso -- no body, no crema, all heart, so it was bitter and lacked depth. However, the last two I've had have been better with a nice crema and medium body. I might need to buy another package so the jury still is out. It's nice though to not feel like I'm not overpaying for espresso for this Verismo. Brought new life.

Does not work well with Verismo system. I ended up throwing away more than half of them.
