The model I received was the BK8 model which I chose as a replacement for my 10 year old brush that had finally died. The bristles are silvertip grade (even though Kent Brushes label it pure badger to simply denote no substitutes in the knot). The brush is excellent for face and bowl lathering. I'm usually a face latherer and the brush when splayed on the face is like a luxurious pillow massaging and lathering. It builds up a lather quickly and easily. The brush does retain a lot of water and so I tend to shake the brush before loading up with shaving soap. The brush lathers in the bowl more than adquately as the loft is not short. You can slop the cream around the face lathering, exfoliating and painting on! Its a great all rounder and is the only brush I really need. The brush is really impressive especially when fully lather loaded. I use a hard soap (MWF shaving soap) to shave and the brush needs to retain more water than normal for this soap - no problems in building a lather. The brush is sizeable but not that it hinders practical use.I wanted a renowned and credible brush that was luxurious, looked impressive and can actually be a great daily brush - the Kent BK8 is it. This brush is a joy to use. The case is a nice red leather number that looks proper posh!!I would advise buying a holder for it for when you have finished. I note some reviews describe it as brushing your face with a cloud and to be honest that’s a great description. If feels really nice and needs very little product to get a great lather. I’ve used cream, hard soap and also a stick where I lathered up directly onto my face, all with excellent results. It actually surpasses (IMHO) the BK4 in terms of sheer softness and the BK8's larger size creates more of a \"brushing with a pillow\" effect. It did take me a week or two to fine tune the water/soap ratio and amount as my early attempts were disappointing. Using soaps exclusively (MWF, Harris, TOBS, L'Occitane), I gently shake out excess water from the brush and give it a moderate pinch at the knot, and then gently load the tips for about 10-20 seconds so that enough product covers the tips nicely. Then it's bowl lathering for about 45 seconds or so until the lather reaches a glorious consistency and volume.The extraordinary softness of this brush really works well for me as a daily wet shaver with mild to moderate hair thickness. The BK8 has great flowthrough; it paints lather on your face with extreme smoothness - absolutely no scritch or scrubbiness; you don't even now the bristles are there!
