The Best of James Herriot

I was very pleased with the book. It was much larger than I expected and I really enjoyed the pictures that were scattered through the book.

This is a book compilation of some of James Herriot's (Alf Wight's) magnificent stories. I found these stories to be a very relaxing, humorous, and entertaining read. I recommend this compilation of stories very highly.

My aunt gave me a copy of this book when I was around 10 and I remember loving it. I ordered this copy to give to my 10 yo niece. When it arrived it was in good condition but not good enough for me to give as a gift. I'm giving it four stars because it's a great book and by no means do I think the seller misrepresented it, but it's just not clean enough for me to pass along as a gift. Shipping was fast (ordered Sunday, arrived Thursday) & the book was only $8. A great deal and I'm happy to have it as a replacement for that I had as a kid and cannot locate.

You can’t go wrong with any James Herriot books. Stories from a country vet who loved animals and also had a great knack for writing. Any James Herriot book makes an awesome gift for children of all ages.

Although the paper cover was damaged, it was there and the book itself is in like-new condition. It was a great price and received very timely.

This is a wonderful book with old time Yorkshire recipes and explanations of Yorkshire culture and farms in the margins. The photos are amazing wonderful memories. Great condition Beautiful Book

Even though I already have a complete collection of his stories this was a great addition because of the illustrations, photos and a wealth of sidenotes.

A great book about the life a Vet had in the days gone by in Dales of Yorkshire...…...a great read to bedtime stories for 6 or up children or to read to people in a retirement care home. Never got old rereading it many times.

I may have read this in a bad time, as I had just lost my four-legged friend of 14 years and, right at the beginning of the book there's a similar story. But, actually, I thoroughly enjoyed this (massive) account of James Herriot's career as a country vet. My dad grew up in the same kind of small village, surrounded by meadows with cows, horses and other animals most children nowadays only see in movies or pedagogical farms. I was reading and being reminded of all the stories dad told me while I was growing up. Next I shall lend him the book, as I'm sure it will be a nostalgic and sweet reminder of a time that is long gone.
