NEWS PRESENTER: Terry, you ve been a friend, some would say a confidant of Alexander Armstrong and Ben Miller for a number of years, can you give us an insight into what we can expect from this DVD box set? TERRY DEVLIN: Oh yes Peter. Well from the very moment you convey this box set from your preferred retailer, be it high street shop, a superstore, a supermarket, or even an online, some might say virtual supplier, to your home. NEWS PRESENTER: (Urging him on) But what of the actual content? The programmes contained on the discs? TERRY DEVLIN: I have been reliably informed, Peter, by the very individuals closest to Ben and Alexander that the box set could conceivably contain three whole series of comedy. NEWS PRESENTER: Comedy? TERRY DEVLIN: Oh yes Peter. BAFTA award-winning comedy. Or action, adventure, romance, science fiction, melodrama, perhaps even a murder mystery or one of the many, many branches of entertainment that are featured on a DVD release such as this. NEWS PRESENTER: Right. Well, more on the precise nature of this DVD box set later. But first a look at the extras...

Intelligent, occasionally anarchic but always funny
I didn't see all of the Armstrong and Miller programmes when they first aired and this boxed set of the first 3 series has given hours of entertainment. These guys worked really well as both writers and actors in their comedy sketch shows. There are three discs in the set, over 400 minutes viewing and I'd forgotten how funny the shows are. It's nearly 20 years since the first series aired, but much of the humour is classic and timeless, using characters or situations which just don't date. I love the chav Air Force guys who look the part of WW2 fighter pilots and speak 'street'. Also the parodies of public information films, popular until the 1950s are genuinely funny. Each sketch seems to be carefully crafted and the recurring characters are never over played. In addition to Armstrong and Miller scripting, there are other writers including those who've worked on Outnumbered and League of Gentlemen. Some of the sketches have a slightly dark side! It's good to watch intelligent humour, well delivered and this set is exceptional value.

The dream team!
Comedy genius in abundance, had me crying laughing until I couldn't breathe. Enjoyed the first series more than the second and third, but they all had well established sketches. My favourites included the inappropriate dentist (Alexander's timing and mannerisms were perfect and Ben's reactions were hilarious), Tony and Dimitri (the massage scene), wartime pilots (isn't it though?), aerobics and the sports logo. Speaking of the logo, in the outtakes of that scene, Ben delivers an outstanding extra performance - had me crying lol.

Talented and funny... excellent collection
The very funny and currently not working together Armstrong and Miller... as one is doing drama and the other singing and hosting Pointless.. but back a few years ago they were simply the funniest people on TV. Watch this and remember why.So many funny sketches, characters and sideways way of looking at life.. very funny and a huge shame that they are currently not performing and writing together. But they are so good... they could come back and still be funny.

Not much to chat about with pals
It's like The Fast Show and Big Train. Attempted sketches that makes watching paint dry more fun. It has one or three sketches that are good but none are hilarious. My dad said one time years ago something I never forgot. It was that people down south would laugh at someone having a poo (had to put the friendly word there). I never understood that until I got into my teens. When I saw more comedy then and it started to show that he was right. It feels amateurish at times this show. But I got that with The Fast Show and Big Train as well. 3 stars and I'm being generous with that.
