Best book on Capital
This is, in my opinion, the best book there is on Capital. I started reading Capital about thirty years ago and, while appreciating its importance, there was still a feeling that I was missing much of what Marx was trying to say. I couldn't really see the point of the value form, for example. So over the years I have read many of the texts devoted to Capital in the hope that they could further my understanding. And, of course, they did to some extent, but it was not until I came upon Tony Smith's book that I truly felt I understood the overall structure of Capital and how the various parts fit together. He achieves this by giving what is the best explanation of the dialectical method I've come across, the best explanation by far. Too often, books on the dialectic waffle a lot about process and connections but, in the end, leave you feeling that the method has somehow slipped through your fingers. Tony Smith, on the other hand, outlines the philosophical background, and presents the method in a clear and straightforward way. Next to Capital, this is the most important book I've ever read.
