Lots of dressing changes? Fragile skin? -- Try This Product
Every time you remove adhesive tape from skin, it takes skin cells with it. This stuff (Cavilon Barrier Film Wipes), which is very easy to use, provides a layer for the tape to take instead of skin. You wipe a wet sponge applicator on the skin, and the fluid dries to a clear plastic coating.Personal story: A couple of years ago, someone close to me was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Given that, she has been very lucky (living almost normally now, and cancer-free for 2 years now), but her medical life since her Whipple surgery has included reconstructive surgeries whose complications have resulted in chronic wounds, hence the need for lots of dressing-changes -- including those with tape-adhered gauze on top and the VAC therapy kind (adhered with a large adhesive sheet, changed twice a week). She's in her late 70's, and the cancer surgery complications left her skin somewhat fragile. We found out about barrier film wipes (Cavilon brand) from the homecare nurse who came to change her VAC dressing; they also had them (Allkare brand) at the wound care center at a local hospital we visited. There's a spray version of this product, by the way, but the wipes give more control of application (keeping barrier substance out of the wound, for example). These wipes may seem a little pricey, but they're well worth it, to save fragile skin from irritation which can cause pain and possibly lead to skin break-down and even infection.I prefer the Cavilon brand, which has in each packet a one-use tiny sponge applicator. Another family member prefers the Allkare brand because the applicator, which is more like a tiny square of thick paper-towel, is "jucier".Be advised: whichever brand you use, there will be a build-up of residue left where no tape is put over the applied barrier film/fluid, so that has to be dealt with. You can peel it off (easier if you first apply an extraneous layer of the barrier fluid), but it can flake, so you have to take care to keep the plastic flakes/particles out of the wound area. They make wipes of adhesive-tape remover that can be used to remove this barrier film residue also. Allkare makes one that you have to cleanse the skin after using. Triad makes one that does not require cleansing afterwards. They seem to me to work about equally well.(Of course, if regular showering/bathing is allowed, the plastic residue should come off easily with a little soap&water and gentle scrubbing.)

AMAZING PRODUCT for protecting skin from bandages/ tape!!
I have been diabetic for 35+ years and had road rash from a fall on asphalt.. I have to keep it covered, therefore tapped.. The first day, the tape irritated and tore my skin. I found this product. AMAZING! You put it on around your wound where the tape will be, let it dry, put the bandage on and wa lah! When you take the bandage off, your skin is still there!! Seems to wash off easily with soap and water.. I know without this, I would have had MORE wounds to deal with! GREAT PRODUCT I WOULD RECOMMEND! - Also, for hard to heal wounds, check out my review at Manuka Honey 100% Pure by Manuka Health.. GREAT STUFF!!Jesus Saves! John 14:2727 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

Awesome skin barrier
Since dealing with ileostomies, for about 2/3 of my life. I have used many different different skin barriers. This brand is my favorite..they are individually wrapped as all the other ones I'd tried . This one didn't seem to be as messy as some of the others and they also have enough liquid that you are able to protect a larger area of your skin. Plus you don't have to wait forever for it to dry so you can move on to the next step. Unfortunately they are the most expensive and come with lesser quantities than others. They have several different styles. A little square one, which is the one I use unless I can find the swab style in stock. Those are even better because you wont have to touch the actual barrier wipe. I'll continue to use these as long as I can afford to. My Medicare and additional insurance won't cover for more than just one box for 3 months.

Quality skin protection for ostomy care
Works wonderfully underneath ostomy products to prevent skin damage from adhesive seals and barrier ring melt. Very happy with the product for that purpose. However, it seems like an adhesive remover is a must for full ostomy skin care, and Sensi-Care/Convatec wipes (purple label) remove this film no problem. Removal results were not as good with All-Kare wipes.Minus one star for the price.

Great for babies
My newborn had a raw diaper rash that was like a scrape. It was not healing using regular or medicated creams. Luckily I remembered that the hospital had this Cavilon product. I ordered from Amazon and have been applying one Cavilon patch each morning (wipe the patch on the affected area, then throw the patch away; it may not seem wet, but it will leave a sticky film behind that will dry and leave a protective film on the injured skin). The raw scrape is now healing and she is not in so much pain with dirty diapers and the changing process. Just be careful to let the film dry before letting the skin touch anything else because it will adhere and pull at the wounded area.

... (between the buttocks cleft) that was small but VERY painful. We tried seemingly every barrier cream
Cavilon is the ONLY product that has helped to heal an open pressure sore (between the buttocks cleft) that was small but VERY painful. We tried seemingly every barrier cream, calcium alginate packings etc. over the 2.5 years I've had the wound with no relief. This has worked ! We were told about it by a caregiver who comes to the house.Be sure to clean the wound thoroughly with a no sting cleaner and dry completely before applying Cavilon. After applying Cavilon dry thoroughly or it will be sticky and cause skin to stick together! We use a hair dryer on the cool setting for both drying procedures. I can't say enough about this product. It does take time; in my case about 6 weeks to see results. So good to be pain free.
