I tried to use this without reading the instructions and struggled. It takes 5 seconds to read and made all the difference. Curling irons and flat irons were never easy or fast enough, but this thing is both. It heats up in seconds, it doesn’t leave creases, it beeps when your curl is ready, it can curl in both directions, it curls the back like a champ (yay no more accidentally burning your neck, hand, or ears!). I’ve never used it to dry my hair so I can’t speak to that.I’ve used it with product and without, works great (dry shampoo, texturizing spray, thickening gel). I have naturally dark, super-straight hair that I’ve lightened and colored to a pastel purple. It is gentle on my processed hair, never pulls. In fact, you have to hold it up to your head because the barrel does NOT lock onto your hair. If you move the curler away from your head, your hair will come out super easily, no need to “unwrap” or spin the barrel in the opposite direction.You do have to brush out your hair, otherwise it will detect that it is working too hard to spin and it will automatically turn the heat off and will start beeping until you reset it. Again, it does NOT lock onto your hair, so if it does detect a tangle or some other issue when it is wrapping your hair around the barrel, it will stop spinning and turn off the heat. Gently pull the device away from your head, your hair will unwrap easily! Even when I’ve been lazy about brushing it out beforehand, I’ve never had to pull hard or break my hair when the device has “locked up”.Cons: It doesn’t curl very well near the root of the hair. I try to get it as close as a I can and even then, the curls typically begin about 4-5” (10-12cm) down from the top of my head. My hair is about 15” (38cm) long.

Short version: I LOVE this CHI curler! I'm selling the Dyson.Long version: I have Dyson Airwrap but never really liked it. It takes a long time to use, somehow some wispy hairs never make it properly around the barrel, and the barrel switching circus and timing are cumbersome. The hairdryer attachment somehow seems to make my fine hair look greasy fast, and I don't have use for any of the other attachments. But I spent crazy money on it so I really tried to like it, but mostly I just ended up skipping any curling.I recently decided to try curling again, so I bought this and the T3 hot roller set. The hot rollers burn my scalp but produce lovely voluminous waves and fullness at the root, so I'm going to keep them and use them for special occasions. But this CHI changed my daily hair game! I have very fine, shoulder length hair that has slight wave/loose curl naturally, especially in wet weather. The ends are damaged so they tend to hang straight, but they look much better and healthier with a little wave. I can now give my lenths loose wave/curl in 5 minutes flat! I hated switching the Dyson barrels, the whole switch operation and figuring out which barrel to use on which side was tedious. This device is so easy, I just place the curler in my hair and make sure the section I want to curl is placed in the "fork", and press the button that is further back/closer to the back of my head. The buttons are slightly raised and placed symmetrically, so I can press the correct button without even looking. It's easy and intuitive and blows the Dyson barrel circus out of the water.I also love the timer! I hated having to count in my head with the Dyson, trying to guess how much time has elapsed. I have the timer set at 15 seconds. I love the simple protocol. Place wand, press button, see hair disappear into the device, wait for the beep, release. No fiddling or counting, I'm free to daydream at the same time.Since my hair is very fine, I use the lowest temperature setting (180F) for the shortest time (15 seconds). It still gives me clear, well defined curls that are too tight for my liking, so I let them relax to have the style I like. I haven't tried it but I'm sure I could preserve the tight curls by using more styling products, pinning the curl up for a while, using hairspray etc. if I wanted to.If anything, the curl is almost too tight for my taste, so I ordered the 1.25 barrel too. I'm so excited to have beautiful hair every day now!

I never thought I'd be able to curl my own hair before getting this thing! It's super easy, I really love it!!! I also love how good it is at detecting a tangle and shutting down. I'm not scared of it pulling my hair at all. I will say it seems like one curl direction gets hotter than the other because one side never curls up and stays as much as the other and this consistently happens every time I use it. That's the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars. It's certainly possible I got a defective one but I didn't notice at first unfortunately. Either way I absolutely love it and will not live without a curler like this ever again!

Takes a little bit of practice to get the hang of it, but well worth it. Long lasting curl!

I suck with a normal curling wand and have a habit of burning myself with one. I gave this a try and though it did take a few times to get the hang of using it after I watched a YouTube video on it, it works amazingly! It took no time to get all my hair done and it was nice not burning myself. It beeps at you if you try to curl too much hair at once because it'll tangle. All you do is slowly pull your hair out, hold down the power button for a few seconds and the beep will stop for you to try again. I have thin hair so did temp of 360 and the setting for 15 seconds.
